Liked: This property was like a haven in hot Santiago with a leafy area and pool out the back. The staff go out of their way to help you with whatever you need. When you arrive they provide you with a map of the local area with all the points of interest you need. There are free bikes to borrow for the day too. Rooms are spacious and clean, the bathrooms likewise. Great kitchen and although we missed it we hear the Friday night bbq is a cracker!! The owner brings out some free wine some nights too!! Fluffy towels … yes please!
Disliked: Little to dislike

Liked: There are too many great things about Ventana Sur to list them all. The staff (including the owners Ivan and Ivan who work there) are all delightful, friendly and go way out of there way to make you feel at home. The place is QUIET but close to everything. The dining table under the grape arbor by the swimming pool in the back yard is the perfect place to escape the heat and noise of the city. In fact it’s hard to leave the hostel because it’s so nice, calm and cool. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, the activities (like free wine night, or asados, etc) are fun but not intrusive if you’d prefer to keep to yourself. The mix of guests is interesting and EVERYONE loves being there. Quite possibly the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Don’t miss it.
Disliked: I honestly can’t think of a single thing that I didn’t like about Ventana Sur. It’s pretty much perfect.
I’ve been staying in this hotel in 2010, march, as I was travelling alone in south america, I’m french and I don’t speak spanish…Imagine how hard it was for me!
But I was arrived, a pretty young lady talked to me with the few words she knowned in french, it was very kind. And for the rest of my days, I was very well treated by all the staff, they were all very nice with me, and I had the best last days I could imagine!
The room was ccol too, the pool…it was a real pleasure!
This is the greatest hostel in the world! An exaggeration that is all too often made by backpackers but in this case it is bang on the money. Very homely place but the key to Ventana Sur is Senor Ivan Droguett. Ivan goes out of his way to make sure that everything you would want is provided. For example: A guest may venture to ask: Senor Droguett what time is breakfast served to? Senor Droguett’s reply: Until whatever time you want. And he actually means it. I often had breakfast at 3 o’clock in the afternoon after a heavy night the night before.
When people ask me what was the highlight of Chile, I always say Ventana Sur because when you stay there you experience Chilean hospitality and find a place that you will always go back to whenever you return to that part of the world. BUENA ONDA!

We stayed in Ventana Sur when we were in Santiago. WE WOULDNT STAY ANYWHERE ELSE!
Ivan treated us like long-term friends. We went out for a few drinks (and also had a few with him at the Hostel) AND he cooks the meanest BBQ!
DONT STAY ANYWHERE ELSE when in Santiago.
Miss you guys, take care

After 10 months of travelling Ventana takes the prize for the best hostel that I’ve stayed in.
The atmosphere is like being in your own house and there are no stupid rules that you find in other hostels. Ivan and all the staff are very laid back and extremely helpful. The breakfast in the morning is good and the best thing is that it is available until much later than you find in other places. They appreciate that no one wakes up at 10.30am after being out til 7!
There is an amazing asado (BBQ) every Friday but if you get a good group of people there will probably be more and you can do your own. The food is excellent and really good value. You won’t go hungry and some wine is included too.
I planned to stay for 3 nights and ended up staying for about 8 because it was so hard to leave. Santiago was quite cold when I was there but the hostel is cosy and the duvets are dangerously warm!
Couldn’t really recommend Ventana enough!
Ay, como me acuerdo de todos los que encontré allí… bonito barrio, precioso lugar, mejor gente!… sin duda, mi casa en Santiago!!!
Animaros a comprobadlo por vosotros mismos, seguro os encantará!
